Opportunity

Despite a steady influx of new signups each week, Univid recognized that many users were not activating key features during their initial sessions. The team had been relying on traditional product tours to onboard users, but these had low completion rates with most users exiting within the first steps.

The tours were also difficult to maintain, often requiring updates after minor UI changes. As a lean team with limited bandwidth serving hundreds of customers worldwide in a PLG motion - Univid needed consistent onboarding that scales beyond FTE:s. With the traditional tours, many users weren’t getting the guidance they needed to reach first value.

Solution

To improve onboarding and activation, Univid partnered with Saltfish to launch a personalized, in-product video experience. Every new user is now greeted directly inside the app by Jonathan, Univid’s CEO and Co-Founder.

In a short video sequence, Jonathan introduces Univid’s core value: creating highly interactive webinars fast and walks users through the essential features to get started. Key interface elements are visually highlighted in real time, showing exactly how to launch their first interactive session.

Instead of relying on a rigid product tour, the experience ends with a clear choice: explore independently, or follow a guided path to go live.

This approach blends trust, clarity, and interactivity from the very first seconds.

Outcome

The new onboarding experience delivered immediate results. Compared to the previous product tour, users watched 5x more content - despite each video being just 5 - 8 seconds long. This shift to short, contextual video created a more natural, engaging way to explore the product.

Adoption was strong:

  • 80% of new users started the experience

  • 70% of those completed all 11 videos

Most importantly, Univid saw a 500% increase in activation compared to when using product tours, with significantly more users reaching key milestones in their first session. The team also saved time by replacing fragile product tours with a system that was easier to update and scale.

Univid now uses this activation moment as a leading signal of user intent and the results speak for themselves: more users are converting to paid plans directly, without needing to book a demo.

Looking ahead

Building on the success of the new onboarding experience, Univid is now embedding short, engaging video touchpoints throughout the user journey—not just during sign-up. Returning users are progressively introduced to features like integrations, analytics, and customization based on what they’re ready for.

The team is also starting to use video to support upsells and feature launches, helping users discover more value without relying on email or sales calls.

In parallel, Univid is experimenting with video engagement data to identify high-intent users and trigger personalized, timely outreach turning product usage into a natural growth engine.
